I was born in 1978, the "public" internet, the "www" - in 1991. Thanks to Sir Tim Berners-Lee and his team we are able to connect to the world in a far more efficient way than before.
Our dream to connect to the world was always present. Think of the early smoke signals, Signal-Horns, Flags.... What made Cristobal Colón sail across the ocean in 1492? A simple wish - "find new sea paths and transport routes with India". in 1837 Samuel F. B. Morse made it posible to transfer signals across huge distances. In 1876 (102 years before I showed up on this globe) Alexander G. Bell and Thomas A. Watson invented the telephone. I won't go into details about "digital signal transmission" because this is a complete universe on it's own. The smartphones as we know them today don't have anything in common with what Alexander Bell had invented, however, a smartphone wouldn't exist without his invention either.
So, what do all those inventors have in common? The desire to connect with other people, and transmit as much information as possible, to share oneself.
I conclude, yes, I was born without Internet, and yet the universe had given everything to me already to connect to the world. We all have that desire within us, we just need to accept it and step over the barriers we made for ourselves.
Today I honor those fantastic people who planted the necessary tools for us to thrive and unfold today.
